In 1999, the Dorrance Family Foundation created a scholarship to provide academic and financial support to Arizona's first generation college students. The Arizona Community Foundation sponsors this scholarship. The foundation awards up to 25 scholarships annually to incoming freshmen at the residential campuses of Arizona's public universities: Arizona State University (Tempe), Northern Arizona University (Flagstaff), and The University of Arizona (Tucson). The total educational and programmatic value of each scholarship is estimated at more than $45,000. The award is renewable for up to three years, a total of eight semesters of full-time undergraduate study. Scholarships are renewed based on academic standing, participation in program events and activities, and community service projects.
